Grades matching tables

For the recognition of examinations within each grade range, reference will normally be made to the median grade.The highest grade in the range may be awarded if the foreign examination corresponds to more credits than those provided for the Pavia examination for which recognition is requested, or if the total sum of credits earned abroad is greater than that of the corresponding examinations validated in Pavia. In addition, the highest grade in the range may be awarded if the student demonstrates that he/she has diligently completed all the credits provided for in the appropriate study program (learning agreement) as approved prior to departure as well as in any subsequent amendments.We reserve the right, however, to use the lowest grade in the range if the activity carried out abroad by the student is somewhat less than expected on the basis of what was agreed upon and approved in the study abroad program.

It is important to emphasize that the ECTS scale only allows the transfer of grades between universities in European Higher Education Area countries that have adopted the same ECTS scale and should not be confused with other grade scales expressed in letters of the alphabet.

From this academic year please refer to the Double Degree partnership section for conversion tables. For partnership in which there is no such stipulation, please refer to the Gaussian distribution table over an academic three-year period.

The ECTS grading scale is calculated as follows:

• Grade A correspondes to the marks obtained by the  best 10% students;
• Grade B corresponds to the marks obtained by the  following 25%;
• Grade C corresponds to the marks obtained by the  following 30%;
• Grade D corresponds to the marks obtained by the  following 25%;
• Grade E corresponds to the marks obtained by the  final 10%.

Example use of ECTS tables

For the conversion of grades obtained in countries where ECTS tables do not exist or are outside the European Higher Education Area, there are no shared tables, but each University of Pavia partner university provides a description of the assessment system adopted, which is used for the conversion of the grade into thirtieths.
Therefore, below are the tables outside the ECTS system that are used for grade conversion.
